Bailey is doing pretty well on the trumpet this year and has improved alot. He doesn't care to practice alot, but does his share. The hardest part is he will just practice in the livingroom :) WOW that is loud!!
He has lessons on Tuesday's and group band 2-3 times a week. He is taken out of class for his Tues. lesson and sometimes forgets to go. He has missed several lessons so therefore his grade has only been a "B" all year.
He is gonna work hard the rest of the trimester to the end of the year and try to get that grade up to an A or A- :) Mid year he kinda lost interest in band, but knows he has to work hard yet this year to finish, because it was his decision to play and it was an investment for us.
His attitude has changed slightly in wanting to keep playing, and I think he enjoys playing, just not so much the learning stages. I keep telling him it will get more fun if he just sticks with it, and learns the basics the next few years. He's impatient like his dad, and wants to know it all now. I hope he continues band next year, but if he decides not to, we'll have to return his trumpet, because of the payments and the added expense for something he doesn't want to continue to learn.
He knows this, but is hesitant to give it up, he likes to play, but doesn't want to learn, if that makes any sense. uuggh. So when school ends, we'll probably make the June payment, but will have to make a decision by July if he wants to do 6th grade band or not.
Encourage him.
His final concert this year is on Tuesday, May 19 at 7pm in the PAC. (DC High school). It will be 5th grade band and then choir, usually lasting about an hour or less.
Here's a little snipit of some of his talent....
